Principal’s Message

Ochoa Middle School possesses an outstanding reputation in the local community and it is with great pride that we continue to build on our strong foundation.  The 2014-15 academic year will mark my 5th year as principal of Ochoa Middle and it is an honor to carry on the Bulldog tradition and continue to serve the local community which is close to my heart.  As the state of California transitions to the Common Core Standards, Ochoa also takes pride in changing with the times and ensuring that we provide a rigorous standards-based instructional program that engages students and prepares them to be successful in high school and beyond.  To this end, our administration and faculty are dedicated to creating a safe and positive school climate and in fostering meaningful partnerships with the students, families, and community members we serve.   We are proud of our numerous accomplishments for excellence – academically, musically, and athletically – and are proud to say that this excellence is, in fact, “Made in Hayward!”

As the Assistant Principal, I am committed to maintaining a safe and productive learning environment.  I am fortunate to have been at Ochoa Middle School for 8 of the 10 years I have been teaching in Hayward Unified, and because I have such a deep connection to the school, I take student learning very personally and want nothing but the best for our students.  Students, Parents, and staff are my number one priority.

I grew up in Hayward, and attended school K-12 in Hayward Unified, graduating from Hayward High.  I attended UC Berkeley and received a Bachelor of Sciences degree in Nutrition.  I then enrolled in San Jose State University, where I received a Master of Sciences in Nutrition Education.  I continued my education at California State University, East Bay, where I completed my teaching credential in Biological Sciences.  Five years later, I returned to CSU East Bay and completed my Administrative Services credential.

I have taught both 7th and 8th grade Science at Ochoa Middle School.  For two years I left Ochoa and was a Teacher on Special Assignment at the district offices, working in the Standards & Assessment Department where I coached teachers at the elementary, middle, and high school levels.  Here at Ochoa I have many duties, including overseeing Special Education and 504 Plans, the English Language Learner program, Student Study Teams (SST’s), and student data and achievement.  I also assist with student discipline and conduct parent meetings as necessary.
